Reminder to Compensate Employees for ALL Obligated Hours

During the COVID pandemic, Wal-Mart in Arizona required all employees to go through screening for the virus prior to the start of their shift.

However, they were not compensated for that time because it was not their “official” work time.

That treatment of employees has now cost the company $2.5 million, according to a settlement that was reached recently.

That award will give employees about half of their potential total claim. It will also serve as a pointed reminder to all employers to pay their employees for all time for which they are obligated to the employer.

Apple and Victoria’s Secret are companies that learned this the hard way during COVID.
