Outlook for AI under the New Administration

While the Biden administration was planning to increase both regulation of and government involvement in the development of Artificial Intelligence, it is anticipated that the incoming Trump administration will take more of a free-market/free-speech approach, while maintaining guardrails against the possible dangers to young people. The role of the Federal Trade Commission regarding AI may be reduced, whereas under Trump, it will be more of an oversight body, in keeping with its original intent. AI will also be used less for surveillance of Americans’ speech and more of a tool for advancement in a variety of areas. Both houses of Congress have committees or working groups that deal with AI, so there are sure to be lots of developments in this area – many of which will have a direct impact on employers (not to mention consumers!), and copyright lawsuits have already started, so stay tuned…
